Uni Knot
The uni knot, also known as the Duncan loop or Grinner knot, is a versatile and strong fishing knot used to attach the fishing line to a hook, lure, or swivel. It is favored for its reliability and simplicity, suitable for both monofilament and braided lines. The uni knot can also be used to join two lines together (double uni knot) and to tie line to a spool. Its ability to retain a high percentage of the line's original strength makes it a popular choice among anglers.
Instructions for Tying a Uni Knot
Thread the Line Through the Eye:
Pass the end of the fishing line through the eye of the hook, lure, or swivel, ensuring you have enough tag end to work with.
Create a Loop:
Double back the tag end parallel to the standing line and form a loop by laying the tag end over the doubled line.
Wrap the Tag End:
Take the tag end and wrap it around the doubled line and through the loop 4-6 times. The number of wraps may vary depending on the line thickness; more wraps are recommended for thinner lines.
Tighten the Knot:
Moisten the knot with water or saliva to reduce friction and help the knot tighten smoothly.
Pull on both the tag end and the standing line to draw the wraps snugly together. Ensure the coils tighten uniformly around the standing line.
Secure the Knot:
Slide the knot down to the eye of the hook or lure by pulling on the standing line while holding the tag end.
Once the knot is tight and in place, trim the tag end close to the knot, leaving a small amount to prevent slippage.
Your uni knot is now tied and ready for use. This knot is highly effective for various fishing situations, providing a secure connection and maintaining the line's strength, making it a reliable choice for anglers.
